GREAT MINDS COACHING Radio Talk Show
How many Baby Boomers does it take to save the world?    The 77 or so million Americans born between 1946 and 1964 are expected to bring down the U.S. social security and healthcare systems.  Let's prove them wrong!

Great Minds Coaching Radio Talk Show airs every Saturday from 10:30--11:00 AM ET on 1240 AM Real Oldies and online at
www.wvkz.com.  Janet's guests are Baby Boomers and other "older" Americans who are making a difference, experts on positive aging, and professionals who provide financial, "encore career" and life planning services.  Scroll down for highlights of upcoming programs and recent interviews.   Use the CONTACT ME page to suggest a guest or a topic.

PAST PROGRAMS:

On February 2, my guest was Dr. Terry L. Maple, whose most recent book
A Contract with the Earth
, coauthored with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, was published in the fall of 2007.  Dr. Maple is internationally recognized as an expert on the behavior of great apes, and currently serves as President and CEO of the Palm Beach Zoo.

From the Foreword by E.O. Wilson:   A Contract with the Earth is an important book...   it conveys what all people, and Americans in particular, need to know about the environmental crisis: the nature of the problem, the cost of inaction, how to fix the problem, and the many benefits that will follow if we take action now...   Newt Gingrich and Terry Maple write as both realists and visionaries.  They define the environmental challenge as far more than just averting disaster.  They envison it as an opportunity to strengthen America...

On January 12, Janet’s guest was Conchy Bretos of Miami, Florida, who took on the challenge of closing the gap in Medicaid provision for public housing residents needing assisted living, saving the state thousands of dollars while keeping elderly residents in their homes.  Conchy was recognized with a $100,000 Purpose Prize from Civic Ventures, which recognizes individuals over 60 who are taking on society’s biggest challenges. New York State has recently approved 5,000 Medicaid waivers to start the same program here, and MIA consulting is working in 17 other states to make this happen.  To read about Conchy's work, go to www.miaconsulting.com.

On January 19, Jim Emerman,
Vice President and Director for the Purpose Prize and Encore Leadership Network at Civic Ventures[ www.civicventures.org ], was Janet’s guest.  Nominations for the 2008 Purpose Prize are being accepted until March 1, and can be submitted online at www.purposeprize.org.  The potential for baby boomers to use their experience, and continue to work for income and meaning, is the focus of programs such as the Experience Corps.

Each month, the radio show will focus on a local initiative that is having a positive impact in our community and could be replicated elsewhere.  On January 26, Janet welcomed Carol Brinkman, Executive Director of the SEFCU Foundation, and Jim Alexson, SEFCU Branch Manager in
Saratoga Springs and Wilton.  Carol was instrumental in launching a workplace mentoring program in collaboration with Big Brothers, Big Sisters that brings local children together with their mentors at SEFCU’s headquarters in Albany.  Jim is a Big Brother in the program.  To learn more about SEFCU go to www.sefcu.com.  To become a Big Brother or Sister in the capital district, go to www.bbbscr.org.
